Source: AI Musicpreneur — RIAA Notorious Markets 2026: AI Voice Site Lalals Flagged
The Recording Industry Association of America has named Lalals in its submission to the U.S. Trade Representative’s 2026 Notorious Markets review, alleging that the AI voice service offers imitations of artists including Taylor Swift, Drake and Ariana Grande without authorization.
The RIAA alleges that the service infringes artists’ publicity rights and may infringe recording rights through the material used to train its voice models. Lalals is a voice-changing service and should not be confused with LALAL.AI, the separate stem-splitting platform.
This filing is not a court judgment, and USTR says its Notorious Markets process does not determine that a legal violation occurred. Rebuttal comments for the review remain open through October 21.
Does the RIAA filing make Lalals illegal? No. It records the trade group’s allegations and asks the U.S. government to consider the service during its market review; legality would require analysis under the applicable laws and facts.
Why it matters: Voice-cloning businesses face pressure from several directions at once: artist-consent rules, state publicity rights, possible training-data claims and scrutiny from payment, hosting and distribution partners. AI musicians should use voices they own or have clear permission to use.
