Suno is asking a court to compel the Mechanical Licensing Collective to provide years of platform-specific streaming data. The AI music company says the records could test label claims that generative music damaged market share and royalties.
The requested information spans major services including Spotify, Apple Music, Deezer, SoundCloud, YouTube and others. Suno argues that data from before and after its launch could show what actually changed in the streaming market.
The MLC has challenged the request as broad and has cited objections from affected digital services. No ruling has established that Suno’s theory is correct. The dispute is important because the evidence could shape how courts evaluate measurable economic harm in AI music copyright cases.
