YouTube Music is rolling out a visible label for music created primarily with generative AI. The label appears on a song’s player page, and listeners can tap it for more information.
YouTube says the designation covers cases such as a generative model creating both a composition and vocals. That wording matters: the policy focuses on music made primarily with generative AI, not every recording that uses an AI-assisted production tool.
The company says it will identify qualifying music using information from music partners and its own detection systems. The label is starting in YouTube Music and will later expand to the main YouTube app.
Why it matters: AI musicians, labels, and distributors should treat disclosure as release metadata, not an afterthought. Accurate, consistent information across delivery partners can help avoid confusing listeners as streaming platforms develop different AI-labeling systems.
