The Academy of Emerging Music Arts & Sciences is opening submissions for its inaugural Ellison Awards on November 1, with AI Creative Direction listed alongside Record, Song and Album of the Year in the General Field.
The eligibility rules draw a sharp line: all audible vocals must be AI-generated. Human-vocal performances and instrumental-only recordings are not eligible. Entrants must identify the human creative contributors and the primary AI tools or platforms used.
Eligible recordings must have been officially released during 2026. The submission fee is $300 per entry, per category; submissions close February 28, 2027, and nominees are scheduled to be announced July 15.
Can a Suno or Udio song enter the Ellison Awards? Potentially, if it meets the release window and other rules, uses AI-generated vocals, identifies its human contributors and passes the academy’s eligibility review. Paying the fee does not guarantee acceptance or nomination.
Why it matters: The category attempts to judge creative direction rather than generation alone. AI music creators considering entry should preserve prompts, revisions, editing decisions, contributor roles and release documentation so they can explain the human work behind the finished recording.
