Musixmatch has acquired Music Reports, giving the lyrics and metadata company access to Songdex, Blokur and Cuetrak as it builds AI-assisted systems for matching music usage to the correct rights holders.

Music Reports says it administers more than $400 million in royalties annually for over 500 clients. Its Songdex registry contains ownership and payment information for hundreds of millions of recordings and compositions, while Blokur specializes in matching recordings to underlying songs.

Musixmatch says AI agents will continuously identify, match and reconcile music uses, but verified catalog data and human oversight will determine whether a proposed match is accepted. Financial terms for the acquisition were not disclosed.

Why do AI music creators need accurate metadata? Every recording can involve separate master, composition and publishing rights. If the song, recording and owners are not correctly linked, royalties can remain unmatched or unpaid.
