Spotify says it took more than 50 million slop and spam tracks out of recommendations this year, while separately removing more than 75 million spam tracks from the platform for serious or repeated violations.
The company says it combines listener feedback, engagement, upload patterns, metadata, and third-party AI detection signals instead of trusting a single detector. It also reports that tracks with a high probability of being AI-generated are ten times more likely to miss Spotify’s 1,000-stream royalty threshold.
The distinction matters: a track can remain available but lose algorithmic reach. AI music marketers should therefore treat authentic profiles, accurate metadata, clean release patterns, and real listener engagement as distribution fundamentals—not optional polish.
