Source: Music Business Worldwide — Suno answers UMG and Sony’s model-laundering lawsuit
In its answer to a lawsuit from Universal Music Group and Sony, Suno acknowledged that it has not deleted all recordings used to train its models, saying preservation was consistent with an earlier demand from the labels to retain training datasets.
The filing does not say that Suno continues using those retained recordings for training. Suno generally denied remaining allegations that it still uses them, while the labels allege that retained copies may have contributed to the development of v6.
Suno also acknowledged that users have been able to include artist names in prompts since January 2026. It says those names are converted into related style descriptions before generation.
Does retaining a training dataset prove that Suno infringed copyright? No. Retention, use, authorization and fair use are separate factual and legal questions for the litigation.
