Source: Music Business Worldwide — Music Artists Coalition Joins AI Licensing Brief
The Music Artists Coalition joined the Human Consent Foundation and CAA in asking to file a brief addressing whether creative rights can be identified and licensed for AI training at scale.
A separate proposed brief from the RIAA, NMPA, ASCAP, BMI and five other music organizations formally supports the plaintiffs in the consolidated copyright litigation against OpenAI and Microsoft. Those groups point to collective licensing and recent AI music agreements as evidence that licensing markets can function across large catalogs.
The music organizations are not plaintiffs and are not seeking damages through these briefs. Judge Sidney Stein has not ruled on their requests or on the central fair-use question.
Why it matters: A ruling about large-scale AI training in this case could be cited in other disputes involving music companies, Suno, Udio and Anthropic, even though those companies are not defendants here.
