Source: Digital Music News — Suno Keeps Pressure on the Mechanical Licensing Collective
Suno is seeking to compel the Mechanical Licensing Collective to provide label-specific streaming-volume data that Suno says could address market harm in its copyright litigation with Universal Music Group and Sony Music.
The MLC agreed to a proposed November 2 deadline to oppose the motion, with Suno scheduled to reply by November 16. At publication time, the judge had not yet approved that timetable.
Suno’s request seeks data dating to 2021. It argues that streaming figures and label licensing terms may be relevant to its fair-use and copyright-misuse defenses. Apple and Pandora have separately resisted disclosure of data associated with their services.
Has the MLC been ordered to hand over the streaming data? Not yet. The current dispute concerns the response schedule and Suno’s motion to compel; the merits of the data request remain contested.
