Spotify S AI Persona Disclosures Become Part Of A Wider Music Authenticity Debate

NPR’s look at authenticity in 2026 music highlights a practical distinction every AI music creator and marketer needs to understand: Spotify’s AI Persona badge identifies an artificial public identity, while separate AI Credits describe how generative AI was used to make a song.

Spotify lets uploaders disclose an AI-created persona and also reviews profiles itself. Those AI Persona profiles are excluded from editorial and algorithmic recommendations by default, according to the report, making identity disclosure more than a cosmetic label.

For human artists who use AI as a production tool, the message is equally important. A real artist using AI is not automatically an AI Persona. Clear credits, an identifiable artist story and honest marketing are becoming discovery assets—not merely compliance chores.
