Source: The Irish Times — Gemma Hayes on becoming a victim of AI fraud
Irish singer-songwriter Gemma Hayes says music that she did not create appeared on her official Spotify, Apple Music and YouTube profiles, demonstrating how artist-page impersonation can confuse fans even without taking over an artist’s account.
Hayes and her team described the releases as AI fraud and worked to have them removed. Fans received normal platform notifications and could reasonably have mistaken the tracks for genuine new music.
The report does not establish a public forensic finding about exactly how the audio was generated. What is verified is the false attribution and the appearance of unauthorized releases on official artist pages.
Independent artists should routinely monitor their profiles, distributor dashboards and release alerts, document suspicious uploads, and report mismatched recordings quickly. As streaming services add artist-profile protection tools, opting in can become an important part of AI-era music marketing and catalog security.
