Source: The AI Musicpreneur — SAMRO AI Disclosure Rule
The Southern African Music Rights Organisation now asks members to disclose how much AI was involved when registering a musical work, but it has not established a minimum human-contribution threshold.
SAMRO says the disclosure does not by itself determine whether a work qualifies for copyright or royalties. The organization is recording the information while it develops a broader AI policy, for which no final implementation timetable has been announced.
The policy direction reflects SAMRO’s April survey of 502 members. That survey found strong demand for AI-specific protection and clearer guidance, while 10.8% of respondents said they had used AI-assisted work without notifying SAMRO.
Does disclosing Suno or another AI tool guarantee that SAMRO will accept a song as copyrightable? No. Registration, membership, copyright eligibility and royalty entitlement remain separate questions.
